The 'before' kitchen wasn't bad at all, I know a lot of people would have loved it, but it just wasn't us. We wanted something more streamlined, cleaner and more modern, to match our plans for the rest of the house.
You can read my previous post on the inspiration behind this room here.
Before
After
Okay so I can't get the wide angle view like the estate agent's shot in the before photo but you get the picture. It couldn't possible be more white. It's not everyone's taste, but that doesn't matter, because it's not their house.
Personally, I would love to get a bit of colour in there somewhere but I haven't quite worked out how yet. We do usually have sunflowers or daffodils on the windowsill to give a pop of yellow like in the lounge but that's literally all the colour we have in there! If anyone knows where we can get some really great, lifelike fake flower, I'd love to hear!
There's three main things I love most about this room,
1. The COOL white lights. I have a crazy hatred for warm white bulbs, unless it's in a cosy cottage or something. For a room like this, in my opinion, the only option is cool white. Yes, I'm very passionate about the colour of my bulbs.
2. Most importantly, this is the most perfect white background for all my blog photos. Hence why all my flat lays have white backgrounds! Guess where they're taken! Not that you can see in the photo but the right hand side has big windows which bring in lots of light which is perfect
3. The section right at the back where the ceiling slops is my favourite place. The cupboard down that end contain my baking utensils and ingredients, and also my cocktail making stuff. Because the ceiling slops and the room gets narrower down there, it feels really intimate and cosy. There's also a window on the right for lots of daylight so you don't feel too hemmed in the small area. When I first saw the house on the original viewing, I remember saying to Luke, 'that down there, will be my baking area'... and so it is!
Needless to say, the one thing I hate about the room is how easily the worktop marks and stains. Luke will tell you it doesn't and that it's easy to clean. It's not. Not going to lie. I personally wanted the white worktop with the glitter in... you know, because the glitter will override the stains of course!
Catch up with the before and after photos of our lounge and dining room and bedrooms and bathroom.
Love Lauren xx
Lauren I love your kitchen! The clean white lines really open it up and make it look so big and bright! I have a mix of clean white and walnut in mine and I absolutely love it.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much lovely! Yes! I've been looking at a colourful knife stand actually! I'm thinking of getting a bright clock on the bit of wall up to the ceiling before the room slops downwards if you see which bit I mean on the photo?! I always try and have fresh flowers on the windowsill which brightens it up a bit too!
DeleteCongratulations on your new home, enjoy every second xxx
I think white is perfect for this space & you're right cool lights the whole way in this space! It looks much cleaner and way more spacious with the new decor. I feel ya on the while background, recently purchased a white table... all the white background for a wee while!
