A Tribute to the Victoria's Secret 'Bombshells'

Last night, the elite in female supermodel's took to the stage for the Annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show a.k.a my favourite night of the year.

I know there is always a lot of controversy around the show, due to the slim body types of the women involved but in my opinion, these people take life WAY too seriously.

Most of the world's supermodel's have starred in the show at some point in their career including, Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour, Tyra Banks, Gisele Bundchen, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Heidi Klum, Miranda Kerr, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Doutzen Kroes, Candice Swanepoel, Behati Prinsloo, Lily Aldridge, Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss and most recently Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. To be asked to walk in the show, in a pair of those astounding wings, is an accolade saved for the best, as the names above show.

The 2015 show marks a monumental moment for Victoria's Secret veteran Adriana Lima. Not only is she (in my opinion) one of the world's most beautiful women, but she is also celebrating being the longest running Angel in the brand's history walking in an incredible 16 shows.

16 of the 21 models on this year's ranking of the World's Highest Paid Models have either currently modelled or have modelled for the show. In it's 38 year history, Victoria's Secret has revolutionised the lingerie industry, adding meaning to the word Bombshell.

But why do I love the brand (and the show) so much?

Ed Razek, chief marketing officer of Victoria's Secret said though Angels have a reputation for being bombshells, Razek says he seeks models women aspire to rather than sex objects men salivate over. "Women have to say, I want to look like that, I want to have that spirit or that confidence and strength.”

To me, spirit, confidence and strength is the epitome of Victoria's Secret. Their confidence is something we should aspire to, not criticize.

Models are specifically NOT chosen for their moody, grumpy, pouty looks as shown on most catwalks across the world.  “We want women that are positive and happy and support each other” says the brand. Watching the show every year, this is so obvious, and even more so with the power of social media  showing all the backstage goings on. The show is fun. I have fun watching, they have fun walking and everyone has fun being involved. Fun, celebrating women, and having fun with the girls is everything I stand for and should be encouraged, not put down.

When I watch the show, it doesn't send me into a deep spiral of depression that I don't look as amazing as them. It makes me feel empowered, proud, happy, excited and most of all make me want to have that much fun with my girl friends! It doesn't need to be made into some negative, these women are so beautiful, why shouldn't that be celebrated? If I looked like that I'd probably be going to Sainsbury's in my undies and a pair of homemade wings so good for them!

Bombshell Day

Whilst there is now a national day for EVERYTHING, Victoria's Secret has followed the trend and recently created 'Bombshell Day', celebrated on the first Saturday in May of each year. International Bombshell’s Day encourages ladies to spend time with their girlfriends and take a moment and enjoy being beautiful and pampered. What better excuse! From now on, I'll be celebrating Bombshell Day, with my friends, in true VS fashion, having fun, feeling empowered, feminine and confident.

The annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show is the most watched fashion event in the world, seen by more people than all other fashion shows combined and I will be there on 8th December, ready with my popcorn to sit back and enjoy the most fun fashion show in the world because a lot of things in life are way too serious, and this is not one of them.

Love Lauren xx
