ICEBAR London Rocks!

Hidden away just off of Regent Street, you'll find the quaint Heddon Street, famously the home of the ICEBAR London. This September, the unique venue is celebrating it's 10th anniversary and what better way to celebrate than a fabulous party?

Last week, London's chosen few bloggers and journalists descended on Heddon Street to not only celebrate the venues anniversary, but also the unveiling of it's new ROCK theme.

We were first of all taken downstairs into what is usually the venue's restaurant for canapes and speeches. First up was Head of Sales and Marketing, Tom Hunter to give us an introduction to the venue and what to expect. Whilst I knew of the venue and knew plenty of people that had been, I didn't know that each year, the theme changes which means it's totally torn out and re-carved with 40 tonnes of fresh river ice.

I was really intrigued by the yearly re-theme, as from the perspective of an events manager, there's something new to see there every year. It's not a been there, done that kind of venue because it's consistently changing. A concept I love in a venue. Previous themes have included, frozen food, architecture, galactic frontiers, northenmost attitude, purity with a twist, aquatic, factory, jewellery, disco, London, traveller, apeach and bottle. You can see all of the phenomenal designs and sulptures from each theme here. They really are incredible.

Next up was Jens Thoms Ivarrson, Director of Design at ICEHOTEL and lead designer on ICEBAR LONDON ROCKS. By listening to him talk for just a short space of time, both the pride and passion he has for his work was clear. You can see from the photos of this bar, and all of the previous ones he has been a part of that his talent and passion are second to none.

After the speeches, we waited patiently for our turn to go upstairs into the ICEBAR to check it all out. Before entering you're layered up with a massive cape with fur hood (I want to live in it forever) and some thermal gloves.

Whilst I thought I could get away with taking my gloves off to snap photos the entire time, I was wrong. Very wrong. Cue the numb, tingling feeling you get standing outside in the depths of winter. The entire bar is kept at -5 degrees the entire year and silly me did NOT wear appropriate footwear!

Once inside the sheer talent of Jens Thoma Ivarrson and his team was clear. The detail in every single sculpture was impeccable, and I've never in my life seen ice this clear and pure before. It was actually all very mesmerizing.

Once we were inside and had taken (very few) photos, we quickly put our gloves back on and grabbed a drink. All drinks in the ICEBAR are served in your own ice glass. It's a very weird sensation to have champagne which is warmer than the glass you're drinking it out of!

We probably lasted about 25 minutes then decided to head back to the warm - and man was it an amazing feeling to be back in the warm.

We headed downstairs for a couple more drinks before calling it a night.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the ICEBAR LONDON for hosting such a fabulous event and letting us experience such a great venue.

Congratulations on your 10th anniversary, keeping a London legend refreshed and reformed, and still at the top of everyone's 'to-do' lists after a decade is a sheer achievement and completely deserved. See you again soon!

To plan your visit, see here for prices and opening times. You won't regret it!
