I will NEVER live or work in London...

My entire life, I've always said I would never EVER live or work in London.

London is...
Too built up
Too busy
Too touristy
Too expensive

It amazed me how many thousands of pounds people pay to commute into London on smelly, packed trains/tubes, leaving home at 7am and getting home at 7pm.

You know those annoying people always rushing everywhere zigzagging the pavement - hate them.

The people who run for the tube when there's another one in 2 minutes - don't get that.

Paying £1000 a month to rent a room in a shared house, not even in Zone 1? No thanks.

Londoners are just so obsessed with London they feel like everywhere outside zone 6 is just a million miles away, and even if they discover it's not, they wouldn't want to leave any way.

It's so built up, there's no outside space, everything towers over you and it's just all too much.

I didn't even grow up that far outside London and I could probably still count on my hands the amount of times I went to the City, I just wasn't interested. Because I didn't know...

I didn't appreciate the vast business opportunities in London, particularly in the event industry.

I didn't ever take the time to explore the beauty, history and architecture of the City, which now astounds me every day.

I didn't know how easily it would connect me with people from all over the world, different backgrounds, different interests.

I didn't know what it was like to feel like the whole world is on your doorstep. I didn't stop to even consider why London is one of the greatest City's in the world.

Now I'm one of those people who zigzag around everyone on the pavement, leaves at 7am and gets back at 7pm, spends thousands of pounds on tubes that are never on time and are always packed, I spend a fortune on everthing from eating out to going to the theatre and you know what, I love it!

I love how many friends I've met here

I love the opportunities in London, personally and from a business perspective

I love how there is ALWAYS something to do, somewhere new to go, something to see

I love how easily the City is connected by public transport

I love the history

I love the future

In the wise words of Samuel Johnson,
"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
— Samuel Johnson

I probably would never have made the move if I wasn't for meeting Luke and moving in with him. Now I've started my business here, and am in the process of buying a house, so I think it's safe to say, I'm here to stay.

Moral of the story: Don't judge before you've experienced it for yourself.

Love Lauren xx

  3. I can totally relate to this. I have always been a country girl, went to study at an Agricultural University and always hated the thought of city life.

Then my partner got a job for TfL and we live just outside 'Greater London' but it's brilliant and I absolutely love the city and I spend more of my time there than out of it!

It's the funny little turns that life throws at you to open your eyes to something you never thought was for you!

Great post, Lauren, hope to see you again soon!

  4. I absolutely love London and would move there in a heartbeat (provided I found the right work opportunity!). I visit my brother regularly and he loves it too. I get that there's bad bits but there is everywhere! And I just love that it's impossible to be bored there!

  5. Love this post! I always said I wouldn't ever live in London because of how busy and expensive it is, but the older I get the more I want to live there! Completely agree about not judging before you've experienced something :) xx
