The Best Country House Spa Hotels in the South

I'm lucky enough that my job means I get to spend my days researching, proposing and visiting some of the most beautiful hotels in the world; and what's better than a country house spa hotel? Nothing. 

I've put together 7 of my absolute favourite beautiful, iconic and incredible county house spa hotels for the most perfect weekend break. 



Pennyhill Park, Chewton Glen, Bowood, Cliveden House, Stoke Park, Coworth Park, Limewood




One
Pennyhill Park
Surrey



In 123 acres of rolling Surrey parkland, this elegant 19th century manor house features 123 luxury 5-star bedrooms, state-of-the-art bathrooms, one of the UK's best spas, a Michelin starred fine dining restaurant and a 9 hole golf course.

Dating from 1849, the sumptuous rooms at Pennyhill Park have free WiFi, four-poster beds, quality linens and a pillow menu. The beautiful bathrooms have fluffy robes, bespoke toiletries and rain showers.

The award-winning Spa features 8 pools, including the impressive ballroom with underwater music. Guests can relax in the spa bath, thermal cabins or award-winning treatment rooms. There is also a modern fitness centre.

The Latymer Restaurant has 5 AA Rosettes and 2 Michelin Stars, and serves a British menu using seasonal produce. The Brasserie has 2 AA Rosettes and offers light lunches, dinner and afternoon teas, whilst the stylish Ascot Bar serves classic cocktails.

Pennyhill Park is a 10-minute drive from Ascot, a 15-minute drive from Wentworth Golf Club, and just 2 miles from Windlesham Golf Club. There is free on-site parking, and historic Windsor is a 20-minute drive away.

Chewton Glen
New Forest

Three
Bowood
Wiltshire

As one of the finest hotels in Wiltshire, Bowood offers a contemporary and stylish stay within the grounds of one of the most historic country houses in the area. Cliveden House
Berkshire


One of the world's finest luxury hotels, has undergone a sixteen month renovation program and is now restored to its former glory. Stoke Park
Buckinghamshire

With 300 acres of beautiful parkland, the luxurious Stoke Park features boutique bedrooms, an award-winning restaurant and sumptuous spa. Set in Buckinghamshire countryside, the hotel is  elegantly furnished with antiques, fine art and handmade furniture, the rooms at Stoke Park Hotel have flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. Rooms also have marble bathrooms with fluffy bathrobes.

Coworth Park
Berkshire

A luxurious spa with a roof of fragrant herbs, an excellent gourmet restaurant, and an equestrian centre are offered at this stunning, 5-star country house. Spacious and elegantly furnished, each room features spacious bathrooms with under-floor heating and copper baths. Guests can relax with high-end technology, including a Blu-Ray DVD player, an iPod/USB dock, and a Nespresso coffee machine. All rooms enjoy scenic views of the gardens.

With a roof of fragrant herbs, Coworth Park’s eco spa features stylish, contemporary architecture. It offers a range of relaxing spa and beauty treatments, along with a swimming pool with underwater music and a gym.

Set amongst 240 acres of Berkshire parkland, Coworth Park is the only hotel in the UK with its own polo fields. The hotel’s equestrian centre offers horse-riding lessons to guests, as well as extensive stabling facilities.

Restaurant Coworth Park serves gourmet fine cuisine and international wine list. Afternoon tea is served in The Drawing Room, and informal dining with idyllic views is available in The Barn restaurant.

Seven
Limewood
Lyndhurst

Originally a mediaeval hunting lodge way back in the 13th century, this New Forest manor was reclaimed for royalty by the Duke of Clarence in the 1740s. Since then,Lime Wood hotel has had another extravagant makeover, giving this stately pile a serious air of perfection, with primly landscaped grounds, devotedly designed interiors, a super spa and two tantalising restaurants to prove it.

In the New Forest National Park, the 5-star Lime Wood country house has a stylish restaurant and a bar. The elegant rooms have free Wi-Fi, bathrobes and iPod docks. Lime Wood’s en suite rooms have antiques, satellite TV, large bathrooms and DVD players. 

The Herb House Spa offers a range of treatments and massages, as well as a raw and cured food bar. The Herb House is a truly special place for both relaxation and pampering as well as serious health and fitness. The unique forest setting and innovative use of natural materials combined with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment and the best holistic and Ayurvedic therapies, puts the Herb House in a different league.

The Hartnett Holder & Co Restaurant is headed up by Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder. It offers locally sourced English dishes, focusing on seasonal ingredients and Italian culinary ideologies.

  4. Ooooh mannnn..... now I'm craving a spa break. Love the New Forest one, and incidentally the New Forest is my favourite place in the whole of the UK.
